  • Title
Letter from G.C. Walker of Bedford, auctioneer & valuer to Frederic Tanqueray of Woburn, solicitor in response to the letter from the Board of Agriculture & Fisheries dated 27th Mar 1913 [see HN10/367/Bedford4]…'The board evidently does not understand the position of affairs. The heavy price paid by the Duke of Bedford last year was to do away with a nuisance to other land belonging to his grace, besides which, the small piece might, under certain circumstances, have been suitable for the erection of a residence, whereas the land at present in question is of a long narrow character, totally unsuitable for development for building purposes. Moreover it is low lying, and in several places below the level of the roadway. The price offered by His Duke of Bedford for this land is a big one, and it would be hardly likely to realise such a sum if offered by public auction.'
