  • Title
    (i) Duke of Bedford v (ii) Assessment Committee of the Ampthill Union and to the overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Woburn and to the Parish Council of Woburn. Copy brief for appellant in the matter of the Duke of Bedford's woods at the Bedfordshire Quarter Sessions, Shire Hall, Bedford. Drawn up by Mr. C.E. Dyer: - Outlines case '(i) has certain woodland in Woburn and he is rated under the Lighting and Watching Act 1833 in respect of such Woodlands as property other than land, whereas it is contended on behalf of (i) that it should be rated as land only'. - (i) to appeal to quarter sessions and give notice of objection against the valuation list and attend before the Assessment Committee. - Objection was sent to Ampthill Assessment Committee on 23rd Apr 1912. - Objection was heard on the 11th July 1912 when the matter was adjourned. - (i) to attend the next Quarter Session and formerly enter and respite the appeal. - Schedule and details of correspondence are then recited. - Letter from Alf T Trethewy, clerk to the Assessment Committee of the Ampthill Union stating that his Committee would further consider the objection to the Valuation List on the 3rd October when (i) by his solicitor attended before the Committee but they refused to grant the relief asked for'. (See HN10/372/Bedford3) - (i) to give necessary notices of appeal in time for the next Quarter Sessions, to again enter and respite his appeal.
