Indictment of Richard Chamberlain, St Mary's, Bedford, blacksmith, and John Christmas, same parish, carpenter, 'being persons of evil name and fame and of dishonest conversation' for defrauding Esther Perrin, on 25 October 24 George II, by paying to her a piece of false money made of base metals and coloured with a gold wash to the likeness of a 36 shilling piece of the Kingdom of Portugal. They were also in possession of another similar counterfeit coin 'with the intent to utter & pay the sd - coin.. to one of the subjects of our Lord the King..'
