    Notes on Ann Gentle (nee Haynes). She was badly injured by fire in her childhood but survived to learn to read and write, and to do fine needlework and lacemaking. In later years she kept a Dame School. Ann Gentle - additional information from research: From parish registers: born 1831 Northill, bap Old Warden as Hannah Haines; dau of Richard Haines and Elizabeth nee Bradshaw. Richard married secondly Sarah Summerlin, had 6 children - Eliza, Mary Ann, William, Sarah, John and George. Ann married George Gentle 11 Mar 1831 Northill, and died 1897, three years after George: informant was Emily Cooper, their daughter. From Bedfordshire Times 1886: Details of inquest held by Borough Coroner Dr Prior, relating to Ann's brother-in-law Reuben Gentle, cow keeper of Hatch, who died 1886 at Bedford Infirmary from fracture of thigh. Whilst minding cows, he spent half an hour at the pub of Mrs Nott at Vinegar Hill, Beeston, and afterwards fell and broke his thigh. Witnesses to the events - Charles Willsher, school boy aged 10; Alfred Goss, labourer of Lower Caldecote; Sarah Gentle, his wife. George Jeeves brought him home in a cart. He was attended by Mr Smith, house surgeon. Verdict: accidental death.
