Salvation army girls, firemen, police and local dignitaries are in the crowd. The market cross is draped with flags. In the background; Thos. Jas. Luck, draper & outfitter, 53, 55, 59 High St and Bryan Welch coal merchant & shire horse proptr is at No. 1 Market Sq. (Both firms are listed at these addresses in the directories for 1898, 1903 & 1906, not 1894 & 1910).
