Photocopied cutting from Evening Telegraph showing photograph of exterior yard of Crown & Anchor, Manchester Street, Luton with legend "Gray & Co Celebrated XX Ale" with opinion of W.W.Merchant of J.W.Green Limited that Grays were probably taken over by Thomas Sworder & Company; - also states that Old Brewery in Park Street, between Church Street and St.Anne's Lane, Luton, was founded in 1767 by Edmund Humphreys, eventually passing to Thomas Godfrey Burr, being acquired by Thomas Sworder in 1857; - Phoenix Brewery founded by R.& F.Pearman in Park Street West, Luton and taken over by J.W.Green in 1869; - new brewery built by Thomas Sworder in New Bedford Road and Bridge Street, remains of which were unearthed in 1938
