    JUDICIAL BUSINESS - Examinations and Depositions. Information of Alexander Perring of Clapham, 9 Dec 1724. "On...the fourth day of December last past he...being one of the Field drivers of the said parish...did on the said day see one William Geery, Samuel Jackson and James Pain some or one of them driving a Cart laden with Stubble over the Cow commons belonging to the said parish contrary to the Bylaws of the said Mannor, which Bylaws this Informant was sworn to do his best to see put in Execution, and in order thereunto did ride up to the said Cart and did order one Samuel Jackson to drive the Horses and Cart into the Road, and not over the Cow Common aforesaid, which he refused to do, and then William Geery came up and told this Informant that Samuel Jackson should drive the Cart over the Common which this Informant endeavouring to prevent a Quarrell ensued, and the said William Geery and Samuel Jackson assaulted and beat and wounded him this Informant...to his great damage and loss...". sgd. Information of John Hockley of Clapham, taken 9 Dec 1724, who said "that on the 4th of December last past he saw Alexander Perring of the said parish of Clapham endeavouring to turn a Loaded Cart belonging to Ursula Yeat of the said parish of Clapham from driving over the Cow commons in the said parish and that Wm Geery, Samuel Jackson and James Pain three servants to the said Mrs Yeate were with the said Cart, and that they did oppose the said Alexander Perring when he endeavoured to turn the horses and cart from going over the said Cow common, and this Informant further sayeth that he saw the sd. Wm. Geery strike the sd. Alexander Perring over the Face with a stick he had in his hand, and struck the horse that the said Alexander Perring as upon severall blows with the said stick, And this Informant further sayeth that he also being a Field driver sworn in Court as aforesaid did endeavour to turn the sd. Loaded Cart and horses..." mark
