    Copy will of Alexander Pollington: - moiety of his personal estate devisable between his children "by custom of the City of London" to be so divided; - to his daughter Elizabeth Pollington the other moiety of his personal estate at his own disposal "by custom of the City of London"; - his messuage called Nowells or Knowls, Nuthurst [Sussex] to his daughter Elizabeth and her male heirs, remainder to his daughter Martha Pollington and her male heirs, remainder to his heirs for ever; - house near the Royal Exchange in Threadneedle Street, London in occupation of John Barton of London, cordwainer to his daughter Elizabeth and her male heirs, remainder to his daughter Martha Pollington and her male heirs, remainder to his heirs for ever; - plantation in Leeward Division of Antigua under management of Coll [colonel?] John Frye of Antigua, esquire "with the Negroes and all appurtenances" to his friend William Prowting and Rebecca his wife in trust for his daughter Elizabeth to be enjoyed apart from the control of any husband; - Elizabeth Pollington to use rents, profits etc. from Nowells, the house in Threadneedle Street and plantationin Antigua to raise 500 marriage portion for Martha Pollington, unless she marry Alexander Pollington's journeyman Thomas Ruff in which case she was to receive nothing; - his woods in Aspley Guise to his daughter Elizabeth; - if his son Alexander Pollington, within a month of the testator's death, renounced those parts of the testator's real and personal estate as his counsel should think appropriate (other than that part specifically given him in the testator's will) the testator revoked those parts of his will which was inconsistent with the following parts: - the moiety of his personal estate to be divided between his children to be so done equally, the other moiety to his daughter Elizabeth as above; - Nowells of Knowls, in occupation of Samuel Mathews and testator's house in Threadneedle Street to be left to his cousins William Prowting and Rebecca his wife in trust to permit Elizabeth to receive the rents, profits etc. during the minority of his son Alexander's son John Pollington for John's education and maintenance so that he was bought up in the faith of Church of England and to read and write English perfectly and understand arithmetic until of the age of 8-12 when they should be taught navigation and placed apprentices with masters of ships trading with Barbados or the Leeward Islands; if John refused then he was to lose any benefits under the will, if he served until 21 Knowls of Nowells was then to be vested in his father Alexander Pollington, remainder to John and his male heirs, remainder to Elizabeth and her male heirs, remainder to Martha and her male heirs, remainder to heirs of the testator; - plantation in Antigua to William and Rebecca Prowting to be enjoyed and managed by Elizabeth separate from the control of any husband and from which she should raise 500 marriage portion for Martha, unless she married Thomas Ruff, in which case she should get nothing; - woods in Aspley Guise to Elizabeth for ever; - Elizabeth appointed sole executrix; - William Prowting, citizen and apothecary of London and Rebecca his wife appointed joint trustees and given 5 each mourning Samuel Brooke of St.Mary, Newington Butts [Surrey], gentleman and Elizabeth Heycocke of Newington Butts, spinster testified to the authenticity of the will of late Alexander Pollington of St.Mary Newington, haberdasher, deceased "on the same day" [i.e. 4 Feb 1711 [1712], presumably the day the copy was made]
