    Statutory Declaration by William Halfpenny of Greenfield, Flitton, labourer: - his father James Halfpenny of Greenfield, labourer, deceased had been possessed of a cottage in Greenfield which he had erected on a piece of ground he had taken in from the waste; - James Halfpenny died in about 1837 without making a will and was buried at Flitton, the piece of ground becoming vested in James Halfpenny, now of Greenfield, labourer, as his grandson and heir at law; - James Halfpenny junior was only son of George Halfpenny, late of Haynes, labourer, deceased, eldest son of James Halfpenny senior; - George Halfpenny died in about 1817 and was buried at Haynes; - on becoming entitled to the cottage, James Halfpenny junior divided the premises into three parts allowing William Halfpenny, as second son of James Halfpenny senior, to take the cottage and about 30 poles of ground and allowing a daughter of James Halfpenny senior to take another piece of ground, retaining the remainder himself; - the division of the property took place in about 1837 and since then William Halfpenny held the cottage and piece of ground without paying rent except a quitrent of 1/- per annum to Lord of the Manor; - William Halfpenny had never borrowed any money by mortgage or incumbered the estate in any way; - his mother Susan, wife of James Halfpenny senior (formerly Susan Newberry, spinster) died in the lifetime of James Halfpenny senior and was buried at Flitton and James Halfpenny senior never remarried; - George Halfpenny was married at Haynes to Mary Woodcraft, spinster, who died in Jan 1852 and was buried at Luton; - James Halfpenny junior, only son of George and Mary, was baptised at Haynes; - James Halfpenny senior had two daughters, Sarah and Mary, both older than George; - William Halfpenny was a widower, his wife having died in 1849; - mark of William Halfpenny; - sowrn before Edward Handscomb, Master Extraordinary in Chancery
