    Indenture of Lease Parties: (i) John Pryce, clerk, parson of Tempsford; (ii) John Nelthroppe of Tempsford, gentleman Operative Part: - (i) demised (a) to (ii) for divers considerations at a yearly rent of 15 to be paid by even portions at the Feast of St.Michael the Archangel [29 Sep] and the Annunciation of St.Mary the Virgin [25 Mar] Property: (a) Rectory of Tempsford with all glebeland, tithes, portions, oblations, obventions etc. Habendum: - to (ii) from "the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Lady St.Mary the Virgin" for eighteen years, if (i) lived that long Clauses: - distraint in case of distress; - that (ii) would maintain all buildings "in as good case as they now be or better"; - (i) to justify any action taken in his name against anyone taking away any "tile, timber, stone of other thing whatsoever" belonging to the parsonage or to (i), anything recovered being paid to the profit of (ii) who was to bear the cost at law of any such action; - (ii) to pay yearly tenths previously granted to Henry VIII, synodals, subsidies and proxies with several pensions then of 4/6/8 and 6/8; - (i) would do nothing to endanger the lease; - quiet enjoyment of (a) by (ii); - (ii) may make alterations to make the parsonage house "fairer, larger or better" ; - repossession of the property in case no sufficient distress could be found; - "it is covenanted and agreed between the said parties that the said John Pryce shall make or cause to be made every quarter of a year during the said term one sermon on some high day within the said parish church of Tempsford and the said John Nelthroppe to give him so preaching at any of the said times his dinner and horse meat, meet and convenient"; - (ii) to give 12 per year, paid quarterly, to (i) for "serving the cure" [the parish] himself or providing a curate to do it for him; - (i) to give a quarter warning to (ii) that he either intended serving the cure himself or giving up the cure, in which case, (ii) was to find a curate, using the 12 as payment to the curate, with (i) providing a suitable room in the parsonage or in Church End in Tempsford for the curate Witnesses: - John Colbeck the younger; - Thomas Fyssher; - Robert Tyngey; - Richard Colbeck pendant seal
