    William Sturgess and wife Hannah and 3 children. Betsy, 10, Ann, 7, William, 4. Preston, Hitchin, Herts. to Houghton Conquest. Hannah Sturgess: family now at Hitchin and chargeable to parish. Husband too ill to come down to Hitchin. Married12yrs ago last Christmas. Following Easter became chargeable to Hitchin and removed to Houghton Conquest. Went to H.C. and delivered J.P.'s order to the overseers and returned same day to house at Preston, Hitchin. 2yrs after marriage became ill and had relief for 2 weeks from H.C. Then living at Hitchin and have been ever since. About 7yrs ago husband ill and had relief at 3s or 4s a week for 11-12 weeks from H.C. Used to fetch it from the Overseers every 2-3 weeks. In the year of the disturbance at Ampthill husband out of work 14 weeks and for half that time or more he went to H.C. about once a fortnight for relief. Overseers at H.C. never questioned our belonging to them. Understand husband gained a settlement at H.C. by living and service with Thomas Amerage, farmer. No other settlement (ro including e)
