- TitleStatutory Declaration of William Cook of Milton Ernest, baker, now out of business in support of title of Richard Lawton, declaring:- he was 82 years old ; - he was well acquainted with Richard Lawton (otherwise Layton or Leighton) and Susannah his wife, formerly Susannah Sturgess, spinster and that they are the same people as Richard, son of John and Ann Leighton and Susannah, daughter of John and Elizabeth Sturgess in certificates of baptism shown at the time of making his declaration; - he had known the messuage occupied by RL for the last 60 years and believed that RL had purchased it in 1851; - he had no knowledge of RL or John Lawton his father ever paying quit or other rent or acknowledged the title of any one to the property taken from the wasteland. Witnessed by Mark Whyley, solicitor of Bedford.
