Reciting - Will of John Lawton (otherwise Layton) of Milton Ernest, labourer, deceased of 13 Jan 1838 leaving the cottage at Milton Ernest where he dwelt together with barn, pigsty, and garden together with garden ground occupied by his son (iv) adjoining to his wife (i) and after her death to his eldest son John and his friend John Dunton (ii) in trust for his four children John Lawton, Ruth Farrer, Mary Barcock and Mariah Lawton (iii) Witnessing (iv) pays £30 divided as £6 to (i), £6 to JL, £6 to SF and RF, £6 to JB and MB and £6 to ML and (i) conveys to (iv): (a) cottage in Milton Ernest adjoining the Bedford and Kettering Turnpike Road which passes at the back with barns, outhouses and buildings (b) ground at the front of (a) and in front of adjoining cottage occupied by (iv) and extending to the village street leading to Radwell and having a passage to (a) from the village street (c) land or ground to N of (a) extending behind it and the cottage of RL next to the Kettering Road. (a) - (c) formerly in occupation of JL deceased and now of AL and bounded: to front by the Radwell road; to back by the Kettering road; to N in small part of Cottage of RL and in large part by lane or brook connecting the two roads; to S by properties of William Gibbins and John Ball Habendum To (iv) to the use of (iv) to the use of (v) in trust for (iv) John Lawton, John Dunton, Samuel Farrer and Ruth Farrer all sign by a mark; witnessed by William Stimson, clerk to Mr.Rogers, solicitor of Bedford.
