  • Title
    Extracted probate copy of the will dated 8 Jun 1866 of Hannah Francis, widow of Richard Francis of Bedford. Appoints Charles Robinson of Bedford, surgeon, as her executor, bequeathing him £10 for the same and wishing him to sell by auction all her household furniture, books, linen, plate etc., the proceeds to be used to pay debts, funeral expenses etc. Bequeaths £19 19s. to her pastor the Rev William Alliott; £50 to John Leach Manning the son of her late niece Mary Manning if living at the time of her decease; half share of the rents arising from their joint estates in the High St., Bedford to her sister Elizabeth Langley if living at the time of her decease, these estates to be sold and her half share of the proceeds to be equally divided between her nieces and nephews (or their heirs if not living, i.e. if any one of them has died), viz. Langley Carpenter, son of her late nephew William Carpenter, Ann Stocker and Mary Tillcock, children of her oldest sister [?Ann Hillyard], Ann Hillyard, Rebecca Claydon, Martha Manning and Sarah Holmes, the children of her deceased nephew George Langley, and the children of her oldest brother [?in-law][?Henry Mayle], Henry Mayle, John Mayle and Joseph Mayle [?being also] the children of her youngest sister Bequeaths to her niece Ann Stocker her two cottages in Chandos St. for her life, the rent to go to her immediately after the testatrix's decease, and at the legatee's decease to be sold and the proceeds equally divided between her children, viz. Elizabeth Evans, Anne Stocker, and George Stocker. Bequeaths her wearing apparel to Elizabeth Mayle, the wife of her nephew Joseph Mayle, and her niece Ann Stocker to be divided between them. Signed by the testatrix, described as of 51 Harpur Street, and witnessed by Elizabeth Addison and Mary Handscomb. Probate in Northampton District Registry. Estate sworn as being under £200
