    Lease for 40 years from John Parker, clerk, bachelor in Divinity and Master of the Hospital as in /1 above and the brethren, to George Gee [Joseph Berrill; parts of the text have been struck through in pencil and insertions made, these are indicated in the list by the use of square brackets] of Bedford, coachman [bricklayer], (the operative words being grant, bargain, sell and demise) of: (a) messuage, cottage or tenement in St. John's Bedford formerly leased to William Bromsall [George Gee], since in the occupation of James Jackson, afterwards in the occupation of the Rev. Benjamin Beresford, rector of St. Mary's and St. Cuthbert's in Bedford [struck through] and now of the said GG [Joseph Berrill]; abutting S. upon a messuage belonging to the Hospital, formerly in the occupation of Thomas Stone [Samuel Gifford], afterwards of Thomas Wiles and now of Sophia Pulley, widow, [all struck through], N. upon another tenement also belonging to the said Hospital formerly in the occupation of Thomas Bradnock and now of [ ] Norman, widow [the property of William Last], and E. on the common street called St. John's Street. General words clause specifies outhouses, edifices, buildings, backsides, ways, easements, entries, waters, profits, privileges and appurtenances. Habendum; to GG [JB] from the Nativity of St. John the Baptist next ensuing for 40 years. Reddendum: the ancient and accustomed yearly rent of 10s. Dorse: witnessing to sealing and delivery by Theed Pearse of Bedford and his clerk R.H.Gibbon.
