    Indented Articles of Agreement by way of Marriage Settlement (counterpart) Parties (i) John Whitworth of Bedford, grocer (ii) Margaret Staines of Biddenham, spinster (iii) William Staines of Biddenham, gent., brother of (ii) and William Whitworth of Earls Barton (Northants), yeoman, brother of (i). Recitals Will of William Staines late of Bedford, innholder, deceased, dated 27 June 1732, in which he gave to his niece (ii) a legacy of £150 to be paid her upon attaining the age of 18 years and made his brother Henry Staines ((ii)'s father) executor; and which was proved at the Court of the Archdeacon of Northampton. Will of Henry Staines dated 9 Nov 1741 in which he gave (ii) £250 payable when she reached the age of 21 years or married and until then his son WS (as in (iv)) should pay her interest for the same at the rate of £4% p.a. and thereby charged the residue of his personal estate and his realty in Kempston thereby given to his son WS (who was appointed sole executor and proved the will in the Court of the Archdeacon of Bedford). That WS having taken on the burden of execution, did by virtue thereof possess himself of personalty of both the said testators 'much more than sufficient' to pay the said two legacies and has paid the interest as directed. Intended marriage of (i) and (ii). Operative part Witnesses, in consideration thereof and to secure to (ii) a competent jointure and to settle and dispose of the legacies upon the trusts expressed below, covenant between the parties that the legacies amounting to £400 shall after the marriage be used to purchase freehold real estate in England to be settled and conveyed to (iii) (or new trustees appointed by the partners to the marriage in the event of the death of either of (iii)) to the uses following: to (i) for life, remainder to (ii) for life, with several remainders over; and that the purchase(s) shall discharge and release WS from the obligation to pay the legacies and the realty purchased from any incumbrance associated with payment of the same; re administration of the legacies until purchase(s) are effected, payment of the interest etc arising from the same, settlement of the same in the event of the deaths of both of the parties to the marriage (which includes, in the event of both dying sans issue, payment of the legacies to WS and Elizabeth the wife of John Burr of Westoning, yeoman, only sister of (ii)), investment of the monies in the names of (iii) in government funds etc. with the consent and appointment of the marriage parties.
