'Where our church car park is sited was once the site of the Whitbread Almshouses. They were demolished in 1966 and the land was eventually sold to our Parish Council.' 'The Whitbread Trust wanted the £340 it raised to be merged with the Shillington Charities (Sarah Lines, George Simkins and Pilsworth Trust) which have the Vicar and Churchwardens and trustees, but as the Almshouses were from residents of Lower Stondon and Shillington they wanted to appoint a trustee of their own to administer the funds. Unfortunately our Vicar at the time would not accept this and so the Whitbread Trust were to form a new charity.'
