- TitleIndenture by way of Reconveyance between (i) Edward King Fordham of Ashwell [Hertfordshire], common brewer, (ii) EKF and Herbert Fordham of Ashwell [Hertfordshire], common brewer and (iii) James Brown of Dunton, farmer Reciting - X 870/4/1 - Mortgage of 28 Jun 1844 from William Brown to Oswald Fordham of Ashwell [Hertfordshire], brewer, to secure £160 at 5% interest. - EKF and Oswald Fordham carried on the business of brewers and malsters as Carpenters of Ashwell, the mortgage of £160 forming part of the co-partnership property - will of OF of 24 Jun 1862 devising and bequeathing to his brother EKF all his share in the business. - OF died on 21 Jul 1863 and his will was proved in PPR on 27 Jun 1864 - indenture of 30 Dec 1863 in which EKF took HF into co-partnership as Carpenters of Ashwell on the basis two thirds to one third - X 870/4/3 - On 3 Feb 1865 EKF and HF agreed to reduce the interest rate on the mortgage from 5% to 3.5% - will of Elisha Brown as in X 870/4/4 - X 870/4/5 - On 19 Nov 1879 (iii) paid to (ii) repaid the principal of £160 and all interest but no reconveyance was made Witnessing continued (i) at the request of (ii) reconveys to (iii) (a) allotment of land in Milhoe, Dunton, containing 1/3/16, formerly in occupation of John Holmes, since of William Brown the elder and now of James Brown abutting: to S other land of JB; to N land of Rev. John Richardson; to E public road; to W public footpath Witnessed by Charles Wallace of Ashwell, mercantile clerk and W. Thomas Chapman, solicitor, of Biggleswade
