Indenture by way of mortgage by demise for 500 years from James Arnold of Dunton, carpenter (eldest son and heir of Thomas Arnold deceased by his wife Elizabeth, née Balk, daughter of Catherine Balk, née Fisher, only surviving child of Edward Fisher and his wife Elizabeth who afterwards married James Harper of Dunton, labourer) to William Middleton of St.Martin's, Stamford Baron [Northamptonshire], yeoman to secure £130 on: (a) blacksmith's shop, barn or shed and premises in Dunton (formerly a cottage or tenement premises) many years since in occupation of Daniel Winters, then [blank] Cooke then John Holmes, since of Wright Stanford and now of John Brown, blacksmith (b) allotment, close, piece or parcel of land or ground and premises in Dunton containing 1/7/- and abutting: to SE on high road from Dunton to Eyeworth; on NW and NE on land of Earl Spencer; on SW on land now or late of Henry Brown, late in occupation of Thomas Arnold, father of James Arnold, since of Justice Folbigg, now of James Arnold Peppercorn rent due from JA to WM on feast of St.Michael the Archangel. The mortgage and interest rate were noted in a conditional mortgage surrender of copyhold land of 3 Sep 1834.
