    Indenture by way of mortgage by demise for 1,000 years from John Ward of Milhoe, Dunton, labourer (oldest son and heir of Richard Ward deceased, late of Milhoe, labourer who was brother and heir of John Ward deceased, late of Milhoe) to Joseph Fossey of Wallington [Hertfordshire], gentleman, to secure £40 at 5% interest on: (a) cottage or tenement called Beacocks in Milhoe, Dunton. (b) close, piece or parcel of sweard ground joining (a) containing one acre abutting to E on highway (c) close, piece or parcel of old inclosed pasture land or ground called Beacocks Close containing 1/3/35 which was exchanged from Earl Spencer by JW by Dunton Inclosure Act of 1797 and abutting: to N land of Elizabeth Page; to E on highway; to S on (b) and yard and garden of (a); to W on land of Earl Spencer (a) - (c) all in occupation of JW Witnessed by Isaac Pendred of Dunton, yeoman and H.O.Roe of Baldock [Hertfordshire] Endorsed with memorandum that: - Joseph Fossey made a will dated 29 Nov 1815 making his nieces Edith Fossey and Ann Fossey his executrices; - Joseph Fossey died on 22 Mar 1817; - JF's will was proved on 14 May 1817; - Ann Fossey died in Jun 1832; - John Ward died intestate and was buried at Dunton on 12 Mar 1843 leaving his only son John Ward of Milhoe as his heir at law; - John Ward the son paid £54 to Edith Fossey on 31 Dec 1850 thereby redeeming the mortgage. - witnessed by Edward F.
