'Sunday. My darling little Boy Thank you for your postcard received on Saturday morning, when I came off guard. Am so glad my old man to hear that you are much stronger and better, and trust that you will continue getting on. Am glad to hear that all the Animals h'are h'live h'and kicking. The other night at the Picture Palace a man had two little dogs on a revolving table, they hoped round and jumped on their two hind legs then on their front ones, over little hurdles on this table, then he had about twenty white pigeons and some he threw into the pit, that is amongst the people, but they all flew back to him and lighted on his head shoulder or hand then he put them on this revolving table, on a trapeze then they all turned 'somersalts' as the table turned round, it was very good, and I wished that Toby and you han been with me, next week, there is to be cats, dogs, monkeys, birds of several kinds and other things, all together in a cage, I shall try and see them if I can then will let you know what they do, there is about 50 of them, so the bill says. Monday 2 pm Just had my dinner, I had a walk through the market this morning after I came off guard, there were a lot of sheep, pigs and Bullocks. Its half inclined to rain this afternoon, so I am going to bed for an hour or two. Now my old man I must finish as the card is nearly full, hoping that you are much stronger and better. Heaps of love, shoals of kisses from your loving Dad.'
