LUTON: Manchester Street. Shows The Albion in the foreground on the right. Lilywhite Series. Photographic Postcard. Whole back covered with message from father to his son [N W Powell, see X291/506/22]. Message reads: 'Thursday. My darling little Boy. When I have written this card I am going to cook my Pork chop I wish old partner that you were here to do it for me, as I am sure you could do it better. Thank you for your nice long letter, received on Monday morning, and am so sorry to hear that your chilblains are so bad, and I am afraid they will not be any better, until we get a change of weather. The hills (which I can see from my window in the guard room) are all white with snow, and the ground is awfully hard and slippery. We see no end of trains go past on the Midland Railway, from here. I think this is a very pretty town, and I believe larger than Norwich. This is an Aeroplane works that we are guarding, the wood that we have to burn in our stoves I should like my old man, for you to see, and I should like to bring you a bundle home, but must not take it off the premises there are some lovely pieces of thin bouser wood that I have not seen before some foreign kind they use for the wings etc. I expect my old man that you will have your house full of models of different tings, that you have been busy making. Heaps and heaps of love, ship, train, motors, wagons and cart loads of kisses from your loving Dad. Hope your poor feet are better today.'
