'My darling little boy Thank Mum, Toby, and yourself for the nice long letters received yesterday morning. I hope your chilblains are better. My ears are awful, when I am by the fire. We came through a very long tunnel outside London. We are about 30 miles from there. There are trains going past about 20 yards down the street. Hope that all the animals are alive and kicking I hardly know what I am writing as the man will keep talking. Love & kisses from Dad'
