    Thomas Randall, Brawfin (Herts). Came from London to Leighton with Jn.Holtham. Confesses he enteres his name as 'James Ward' in Leighton market toll book, as voucher for J.H. The Examinacon of Thomas Randall late of Brawfin in the County of Hertford taken before Sr Francis Wingate Knt one of his Majesties Justices of the peace for the County of Bedford aforesaid the 14th day of October Anno dni 1683 This Examint saith that he met with Mr John Holtham at the signe of the Prince of Orange in Bunhill feilds on Wednesday last which was the first time that ever he saw him who desired this Examint to goe with him to Alesbury whether they went lyeing at Uxbridge by the way on Thursday night at the sign of the Rose and Crown and the next day they came to Alesbury & lay at the signe of the red Lyon there, and yesterday they came to Laighton faire where he this Examint intended to part with his company & goe to his fathers, This Examinant alsoe confesseth he entered himselfe by the name of James Ward of Hichin in the Toll book at Laighton faire as Voucher for Mr Holtham in exchange of a horse; but why he entered himselfe by a wrong name he cannott tell: And further sayth not.
