John Green, Maidstone (Kent), lab.
Bought the cows from a man he met on the road between Brickhill and Hockliffe. The Examinacon of John Green of Maidstone in the County or Kent laborer taken before Sr Francis Wingate Knt one of his Majesties Justices of the peace for the said County of Bedford the 20th day of November Anno dni 1683 This Examint sayth that last night about foure of the clocke, in the Road between Brickhill & Hockleife, he bought three Cows of a man he overtooke upon the Road (viz:) two Black ones & a Brown one, that he paid nine pounds five shillings for them & told the money into his Chapmans hat in the Road, but knew not the mans name he bought them of neither did aske him his name; which said three Cows he this Examint brought to Laighton abt six of the clock the same night to the signe of the Eagle & Child there, and sold them there this present day in the Markett to three severall men whom he knew not: And further this Examint sayth not.
