    Deposition:Robert Francklin, Maulden. 9 February 1683. Saw Jonathan Haylor steal a shirt drying on a bush. J.N. was later taken, but had hidden the shirt. Johnathan Naylor, London. Confesses theft of shirt; he was very poor and is sorry. The Information of Robert Francklin of Maulden taken the 9th of Feb 1682 before me John Ventris Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of Peace for the County of Bedford This Informant being duly sworne sayth that being keeping Sheepe uppon Maulden Common he did see Jonathan Naylor take a shirt from furz bush which was hung their to drie, it being about 10 or eleven of the clock on the forenoon and the sayd Informant pursued the sayd Jonathan Naylor neare a quarter of a mile and then one John Linnis; and Solomon Springe being likewise informd of it pursued hym the sayd Jonathan Naylor and tooke hym but he had hid the shirt in a bush and further sayth not. The Examination of Jonathan Naylor late of London taken the 9th of Feb 1682 before me John Ventris Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of Peace for this County. He being Examined did say it was all true which was sworne against hym by the Information of Robert Francklin and that he was extreame poore and is very sorry for what he had done, and farther sayth not John Ventris
