Deposition: Alice Savill, Moggerhanger. 31 July 1682.
Missed a crepe gown, 2 petticoats, 1 coat, 3 ells cloth and 2 shifts from her house. Went to the Ragged Staff, Blunham, and found 1 petticoat and 1 coat in Eliz.Heydon's cloak bag. Elizabeth Heydon. She and Grace Hull stole Alice Savill's clothes. E.H. had only the things found on her as her share. The Information of Alice Savill of Moggerhanger in the parish of Blonham & County aforesd taken as followeth this 31 day of July 1682. This Informant saith that she went into the feilds to glean onWeddensday the 26 day of July 1682 about 8 or 9 a clock, and locked the street dore, but left the back dore next the orchard only shutt by the lacth, leaveing her boy at play near home. And that she & the sd little boy went out Thursday Fryday & Saterday next after to glean and never perceived any dore to bee meddled with, or any Key broken or any lock or bolt of the dores which were every day after Weddensday aforesd until Sunday next following kept lock'd & bolted, either shott or disordered. And on Sunday morning looking for a Cupbord Cloth she missed a new Crape Gown A Red Tammy Petticoat A Linsey-Woolsey Petticoat & A Stuff Black Coat, three ells of Hempteer Cloth One Flaxen Cupbord Cloth, One New Hempteer shift of her own & One Hempteer shift of her Girles. And being much troubled that they were stole, she asked a travilling woman if she saw any one have any of the things aforesd the Traveller answered she saw a girl who lay at the Ragged Staff in Blonham on Saterday & Sunday night the 28 and 29 instant who had two coats part of the discribed lost goods. Whereuppon this Informant went to the Ragged Staff aforesaide, And ther found one Elizabeth Heydon (of Kings Langly in the County of Hertford as she confessed) on Monday the 31 of July aforesd And found one Linsey Woolsey Petticoat and one Black Stuff Coat part of the lost goods in her the saide Elizabeth Heydons Cloak bagg and further saith not. Thomas Bromsall The Examination of Elizabeth Heydon abovesd taken the 31 day of July abovewritten as followeth. This Examinant saith she was in Company with one Thomas a little flaxen hared man and one Grace Hull a black great wench. And confesseth that the sd Grace Hull her companion inticed her to goe with her into the informants house and that they did steal & carry away the abovementioned Goods, but that she this Examint had none but the goods now found in her possession allowed her for her part and proportion. & further saith not capt. cor.
