    As HSA/1682 S/39 Deposition:The Information of Humphry Skelton of the Towne of Bedford in the County of Bedford Baker & Inneholder taken before Thomas Christie Esqr one of his Majesties of the peace there the eighteenth day of January Anno Dni 1681 This Informant sayth that about Aprill last past he lost a grey Horse out of his stable which he deemed to be Stolen from him in the night for that in the morning he found his yard Scattered with Straw from the Stable doore that the treading of the Horse as he beleived might not be heard & at the same time one Clement Austin of Oundle in the County of Northampton who was this Informts guest lost a Sadle as he affirmed And this Informt being tould by some of his neighbours that one Joseph Hewes who is now in Northton Gaole as he is informed might justly be suspected as having beene lately at Peterborough where he had sold a Mare & a Sadle to one John Turnor a Painter this Informant thereupon went to Peterborough & found the said Austins Sadle in the said Turners hands who tould this Informant that he had bought the Mare & Sadle of the said Joseph Hewes & that the said Hewes had exchanged a horse for the said Mare with one of Wisbeech whereupon this Informant went from thence to Wisbeech to enquire after his horse & there found the Horse that had beene Stolen from him in the hands of one Joseph Cuthbert Plumer there who afirmed to this informant that he had received the said Horse of the said Joseph Hewes in exchange for a Mare.
