Title
Deposition:Baptist Woodrooffe, Edmonton (Middx), husbandman. 2 Dec. 1680. Ralph Blan exchanged a mare with him. B.W. was later charged before a J.P. with stealing it. Ralph Blan. Bought mare from man on the road near Welwyn. The Informacon of Baptist Woodrooffe of Edmunton in the County of Middlesex husbandman taken before me Wm Daniel Esqr this 2 day of December 1680 upon oath against Ralph Blan of Maulden in this County labourer as followeth This Informt being duly sworne saith that about the latter end of Hay harvest last the said Ralph Blan came to this Informts house at Edmunton with a bay bald mare and the next morning this Informt changed an horse for the said mare, and on Monday last the 29th of November last past as this Informt was coming downe to Ampthill faire this Informt was stopt at Mimms in Hertfordshire by one Edward Ball of Stony Stratford in the County of Bucks & three persons more unknowne to this Informt who charged this Informt with felony before a Justice of Peace for stealing the said Mare, and this Informt had then bin sent to the Goale had not he bin well knowne to the Justice for an honest man, & given very good security for his appearance next Sessions to be holden for that County And this Informt saith that he knoweth not how the said Ralph Blan came by the said Mare but that she is the same Mare this Informt was charged for stealing of before the said Justice and further saith not. Jurat. coram me Wmo Daniel The mark of Baptist Woodrooffe The Examinacon of Ralph Blan taken before me Wm Daniel Esqr the day & yeare above written This Examint saith that goeing to Edmunton at the time aforesaid on foote he overtooke one with the said Mare tired about Welling in Hertfordshire, and after some discourse he bought her of the man for 33s and lay that night at a brick house at St John Read's Parke corner and further saith not.
