Scope and Content
The file consists of correspondance, reports and plans. A letter indicates that the Secretary of State moved the school to a new site with frontage to Hinwick road. Correspondance in the file reveals the cost of the project with a breakdown of what each area of work costed. Letters reveal Bedfordshire County Council was given permission to borrow money. In addition there is correspondance regarding work on the field and kitchen. There are site plans of the Podington school but most of them show the field rather than building plans. There is a statement of the cost on the tender. A valuation report has been completed for the project. A letter indicated the secretary of state approved of the plans. A report shows the details of the the rooms and information on the building materials used. Original plans did not meet the requirements of the county planning officer. Correspondance shows that the plans were amended. A report is in the file showing the particulars to accompany application for district valuer's report. There is correspondance regarding the purchasing of the land for the school. Finally there are handwritten notes which detail what the school will require and how many children it will accomodate.
