File on Isolated Classroom Unit: Memo from Director Of Education to County Architect; 'I refer to your memo of 25 Jul [not here] and note that the area coloured yellow will not now be available to us. In order that I may comment on the suitability of the site for a lower school will you please let me know the acreage of the land marked blue and pink'; 2 Aug 1968 Reply; 'Red about 1.05 acres; Blue about 3.665 acres; total about 4.715 acres; 7 Aug 1968 Reply; 'I regret that the land which had originally been earmarked as a school site is not now available. Nevertheless in view of the fact that about 4.7 acres are available, I confirm that the pink and blue areas combined would be acceptable as a site for a new lower school'; Sep 1968 Reply; 'Since sending my memo of 7 Aug, I have been able to make a study of the layout on the land we already own and which seems quite adequate for your needs. In the light of this, I should think the acquisition of more land would be difficult to justify. I propose, therefore, to take no further action unless I hear from you to the contrary'; 20 Sep 1968 Memo from County Architect to County Planner; 'I enclose two paper copies of my drawings showing the proposal for Isolated Classroom Unit at Stotfold CP School and shall be glad to know if you have any observations from a Town & Country Planning Act point of view. This sum is made up as follows: Building work £6,575; Professional fees and expenses £100. This approval is given subject to the Authority being able to meet the gross cost from their Minor works allocation for the period in which the work is started. The approved plans... provide for the addition of an isolated classroom unit at Stotfold CP School. The Authority are asked to satisfy themselves that the minimum two per cent daylight factor is met in the practical area and particularly in the area around the warm air heater unit. A statement of cost on tender should be sent to the Department on Form SB27. The tender need not be referred to the Department for approval however, unless it is proposed to accept a price which would increase the gross cost of the project by more than one per cent above agreed estimate of £6,575. The Authority's attention is drawn to paragraph 13 of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Circular 79/67 which requires contracts for building work of less than two years duration to be let on a firm price basis unless the prior approval of the Department has been obtained before tenders are invited. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government has been recommended to issue formal consent to the borrowing of the sum of £6,675 for a period of 30 years. A certificate from the architect on Form SB23 should be sent to the Department as soon as possible after the completion of the work. The statement of final cost on Form SB17 should be submitted as soon as the accounts are complete. The Authority is asked to make every effort to clear the final account as soon as possible after the completion of the project. Immediate notification of the date on which this accommodation is taken into use should be sent to the Department and Her Majesty's Inspector'; 1 Nov 1968 Memo from County Architect to Chief Education Officer; 'In reply to your memo of 21 Oct 1969, I regret that there will be insufficient funds available under the contract to allow any additional roadworks to be carried out at this site'; 21 Nov 1969 Letter from F G Glenister, Butterley Brick Co Ltd, Leicester, to County Architect; 'With regard to the two projects at Stotfold and Marston Moretaine CP Schools, we will reserve for you, entirely without prejudice, 4,600 2 5/8" Blaby Matlock Grey Rustic Facings to each Contract from today's date.
