    Deposition: Edward Cole Chalgrave, hayward. Wm. son of Jn. Gurny said sheep was not his father's, but J.G. said it was. E.C. threatened to put it in the pound. The information of Edward Cole of the parish of Chalgrave in the County aforesd Hayward taken before me Wm Duncombe one of his Maties Justices of the peace in the County aforesd this 25 December 1677 This informant saith that about 3 weekes since he saw a greate white sheep reddled on the backe & marked on the Buttock (the marke he knows not) in the orchard of Roger Jenkins. That two or 3 days after He saw the same sheep in Teboth feilds That he asked Wm Gurney of Hockliff the son of John Gurney Butcher if that sheep was his fathers who told him it was not upon which this informant threatened to put the sheep in the pound if he met hir any more there That he saw Mary Jenkins the wife of Roger Jenkins drive the sd sheep into hir orchard & once he was so righ as to see hir put a faggott before the gap that it might not get cut. That upon the 24th instant he advisd the sd Mary Jenkins to compount with the drover for feare some harme should come of it who answerd she card not a fart for she had receivd no money for it yet. And Concerning John Gurney he saith that he did meet with him about 3 weekes since & told him of the said sheep & that his son Wm had told him it did not belong to him the sd John Gurney & that he would pound hir if he found hir agen in Teboth feilds. To which John Gurney answered that the sheep was his sheep & desired him he would not pound hir. Farther saith not. W Duncombe
