    Deposition: John Gale, Bedford, 'plaisterer'. 23 May 1675. Confesses to theft of coat and 22s. of Geo. Harris, while Harris lay drunk. Returned coat and intended to return money. The examinacon of John Gale of Bedford in the county of Bedford plaisterer taken the three and twentieth day of May Ao Dni 1675 This examinant beeing charged by George Harris for stealeing of one coate and two and twenty shillings in money from him the said Harris doth confesse that on Satturday about nine of the clocke at night hee this examinant goeing aling with the said George Harris to convey him to Brumham neare Bedford aforesaid in his way thither neare the windmill on this side Brumham aforesaid the said Harris beeing soe druncke that hee was able to goe noe further lay downe and slept there, and whilst hee was asleepe this examinant tooke from him his coate which hee hath since given him the said Harris and two and twenty shillings in money and that this morneing hee this examinant payd eighteene pence part thereof to Joane Deane an Alehouse keeper of St Peters parish in Bedford aforesaid which hee was indebted unto her the said Joane and then lefte with her the said Joane one and twenty shillinges and six pence to lay upp for him the said Gale beeing the residue of the said two and twenty shillinges which hee had taken from the said George Harris as aforesaid but intended to have given the said moneyes to the said Harris when hee should aske for it And further saith not.
