    Depositions: William Money, Pertenhall, labourer 10 July 1675. Found grain stolen from barn of his master Mr. John Easton, Rector of Pertenhall. Suspects Henry Mayes, in whose house was sack of Mr. Easton's. H.M. confessed. Henry Mayes, late of Kimbolton, Hunts. labourer Confesses to theft of grain. The information of William Money of Pertenhall in the county of Bedds labourer taken upon his oath the tenth day of July in the yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred seaventy five This informant saith that hee is servant unto Mr John Easton clerke Rector of Pertenhall aforesaid in the said county of Bedds whome hee hath served for a yeare last past and upward and that hee this informant about five monthes since dressed ten quarters of barly and layd it up in his masters barne in Pertenhall aforesaid being his masters graine and about two dayes after hee had layd up the said graine, upon veiwing the heape, hee found so neare as hee could guesse two or three bushells stollen away and about three or fower dayes after that hee found more graine stolne from the said heape and upon measureing of the said graine hee found seaven bushells wanting which were stolne at the said times and this informant acquainting the said Mr Easton his master therewith knowing the same to bee stolne haveing the keepeing the keyes of the barne where the said graine lay By the comand of his said master searcht severall houses in the towne of Pertenhall aforesaid where hee suspected, but found nothing but presently after the said Mr Easton heareing that one Henry Mayes then of Kimbolton in the county of Huntington was in the gaole of Huntington for stealeing deare from the Earle of Manchester and upon searching for the said venison by the said Earles servants they found as it were said three or fower bushells of barley in the howse of the said Mayes and alsoe a sacke which the said Mr Easton being present did owne to be his sacke and was stolne from him out of his stable in Pertenhall aforesaid and doth charge the said Henry Mayes for stealeing the said sacke which the said Henry Mayes did confesse to this informant and alsoe the said Mayes did confesse to this informant this morneing that hee the said Mayes was once in the said Mr Eastons barne in Pertenhall aforesaid and stole barlye out of the said barne by unlocking the locke with which the said barne doare was lockt with a key that hee the said Mayes had and that hee the said Mayes had a bunch of keyes two whereof this informantfound upon tryall would unlock two of the lockes which hung upon the said Mr Eastons barne doares and hee further saith not The mark of William Money Taken and acknowledged upon oath the day and yeare first abovewritten before mee Wm Foster The examinacon of Henry Mayes late of Kimbolton in the countye of Huntington laborer This examinant being charged with stealeing of graine out of the barne of Mr John Easton clerke at Pertenhall in the county of Bedford and a sacke being the goodes of the said Mr Easton doth confess the same to bee true The marke of Henry Mayes Taken and acknowledged the 10th day of July Ao Dni 1675 before mee Wm Foster Wittnes hereunto Richard Johnson the marke of William Money who is one of the witnesses bound over to prosecute
