    Deposition: Robert Cheney of Hockliffe, gentleman 22 April 1670. John Keye offered to sell him a horse for £5, but would accept 50s. He suspected Keye of stealing the horse. Keys ran away leaving the horse when he called others to arrest him. The information of Robert Cheney of Hockleige gentleman, taken upon oath before me Fra. Wingate Esq. JP on April 22, 1670. Who saith that on thursday the 21st of this inst. Aprill there came to this inf. one Jn Keys of Leeds, Yorks., rideing upon a darke Griseld Rond horse which he proferred to this inf. to sale; and did aske him five pounds for him, but this inf. did bid him noe more than fifty shillings, which said summe the sd. Jn Keys did agree to take, but this informant thinking the horse to be worth five pounds had therefore some suspition of the sd. Jn Keys and did tax him with stealing the sd. horse, and told him he would have him before a justice of peace, and accordingly did goe to call some persons to his assistance to secure him and in the mean time the sd. Jn Keys did run away leaveing Ms horse behind him, And being pursued by severall persons was at length apprehended and taken and put into the custody of the Constables of Tilsworth. And further this informant deposeth not.
