    Deposition: Edmund Hatley. 26 August 1670 His shop was broken into and £50 worth of goods stolen. Suspects WilliamPeake and his wife - they were seen in St.Neots late that night, and afterwards a piece of cloth with Informant's mark on the selvage was found in their possession. The Information of Edmund Hatley of St Neots in the County of Hunt imbroyderer and Frances his wife taken upon oath the xvith day of August Ao dni 1670 These Informants say that upon Saturday or Sunday Night last past theire Shop in St Neots aforesaid was broken open and severall parcells of goods vidzt Lynnen ready made into Grevits Bands and Cuffs and shirts and severall peices of Lynnen Cloth not cut, as also Hoods and Scarves and severall other parcells of goods were then feloniously taken from them out of theire said Shopp to the value of Fifty pounds as they doe verily beleive and that about a Fortnight after Michaelmas last theire said Shoppe was likewise broken open in the Night time and severall parcells and peices of Linnen & other goods then feloniously taken out of the same to the valew of about Fowerscore pounds and that they have in suspicon William Feake of Eaton Socon in the County of Bedford labourer and Sarah his wife for committing the said felonies for that they these Informants haveing information that the said William Peake and his wife upon Saturday Night last in the Night was seene by severall persons to bee in the said Towne of St Neots and thereupon upon Munday last searching the howse where hee the said William Peake and his wife made theire abode in Eaton aforesaid they beeing Pedlers ther was found amongst theire goods a slipe of Cloath of an Ell and Three Nailes in length, and one Naile in breadth beeing the Selvidge of the said peice of Cloath beeing Holland which was marked with the marke which these Informants doe constantly marke theire Lynnen with and doth differ from all other markes of Shopkeepers that they knowe of and this Informant Frances saith that shee knoweth the said slipe of Cloath by the said marke to bee parcell of the Cloath which was feloniously taken out of their said Shopp as aforesaid And they further say not Taken the day and yeare first above written before us W Beecher Wm Boteler John Neale Will Gery Wm Foster Ed Hatly The marke of Frances Hatly
