    Deposition: ames Hopson, late of Resbey (Leics) 9 Mar. 1671 While on way to London with his wife, his horse fell lame; left it at 'The George', Hockliffe. Later sold it to John Gurney of Hockliffe for £15. The Examination of James Hopson late of Resbey (?Rearsby) in the County of Lecester taken before us Fra. Wingate and St. John Thomson Esqs., J.P.s on the 9th of March 1670. This examinant saith that his habitacion hath been all his time at Resbey in the County of Lester aforesd., And that he together with his wife came from thence about a fortnight since, and comeing through Hockleife in the County of Beds, a Mare which he had, fell Lame, where he left her at the signe of the George, riding to London with his wife upon another horse of his owne, And that he left his wife at London at a Kinsmans of his one Edwife Smyth keeping a victualling house at Whitehall in Long Acre. And this ex. sayth that in his travell from Resbey to London he went the direct Roade, not goeing to any other towne then such which lay in the Roade. And that since he was apprehended upon suspition of the takeing away certaine moneys out of the pocket of one Luke Lewis of Hempsteed in the County of Herts, Mealman, he sold his mare which he had soe left lame at Hockleife as aforesd. to one John Gurney of the same towne, who was to give him 15s besides the charge of keeping & Cure, which the said John Gurney was to pay; And further this Examinant sayth not.
