    Deposition: Thomas & Geo. Norris, Wavendon. 4 July 1670 J.D. attacked R.N. while lying in a field of wheat a mile from Dunstable (more details) The deposition of Thomas Norris and Geo. Norris of Wavendon Bucks. as it came from the mouth of their brother Roger Norris taken upon their oathes before St. John Chernocke Bart. J.P. the 4th of July, 1670 These deponents say that John Dier late of Husborne Crawley in the County of Beds. came with Roger Norris to Redborne to the signe of the Black Lion to the house of one Jn Chambers alias Halsey on Friday being the first day of this inst. July and there the sd. Roger Norris and John Dier supped together that night and after they had supped the sd. Roger Norris would have gone to bed and the sd. Jn Dier perswaded the sd. Roger Norris not to goe to bed but to goe forward that night onwards of their journey towards the kingdome of Ireland the place that the sd. Roger Norris and Jn Dier did designe to goe unto, the sd. John Dier useing this reason that they might be there before their money was spent and when they came within a mile of Dunstable the sd. John Dier perswaded the sd. Roger Norris to lye downe and sleep, the sd. Roger Norris being unwilling to be perswaded by the sd. John Dier to lye downe and sleepe was onely willing to sit downe and rest himselfe but at last the sd. John Dier perswaded the sd. Roger Norris to goe into A peece of Wheate neare to the highway and there they did lye downe together and after they had layne there A little while the sd. Roger Norris fell a sleep the sd. John Dier being awake and Roger Norris asleep the sd. John Dier tooke up a crabtree cudgill and with the biggest end thereof struck the sd. Roger Norris five or six blowes on the head the first of these blowes the sd. John Dier struck the the sd. Roger Norris was getting upon his legs and he knocked him downe againe [and after the said John Dier had got him downe againe] the sd. John Dier tooke a rasor out of his pocket and fell upon the sd. Roger Norris and cut his throate in two severall places and cut and mangled his face and head in divers places and the sd. Roger Norris desired the sd. John Dier to spare his life though he tooke his money and the sd. John Dier to swore he would have both after the sd. Jn Dier had done the sd. Roger Norris all this mischeife thinking he had killed the sd. Roger Norris the sd. John Dier put his hand into the sd. Roger Norris his pockett and tooke out about nineteene shillings all the money that the sd. Roger Norris had, and then left him as the sd. John Dier thought for dead within the wheat lands and after the sd. John Dier was gone the sd. Roger Norris got out of the wheate into the highway and there he was taken up and carried in a Waggon to Markett Street and there he lyes not likely to live and further these deponents say not.
