    Robt, Doman, St. Neots, draper 12 Jan. 1670 Thefts by Ralph Meakes of Eynesbury gardener; details given of prices for which goods were sold. Ralph Smith & wife Sarah 19 Jan. 1670 Purchase of silver lace and Tamarine of R.M. Mary wife of William Isaac 19 Jan. 1670 Purchase of stuffs from R.M. Henry Lumbe 19 Jan. 1670 Purchase of lute-string, tamerine and prunella. The information of Robert Doman of St. Neotts Hunts, draper, taken upon oath before me John Gardiner Esq. J.P. for Beds, the 12th day of January 21 Chas 2. This inf. sworne saith That Ralph Moakes of Ansbury Hunts, gardner & now a prisoner in the County Gaole of Bedford did about the beginning of May last and severall times since take divers goods viz. woosted, farradine, Tamerine, silver lace, and severall other goods out of the shopp of this inf. and brought them to Mary the wife of William Isaac of Bedford ironmonger and sold them to her as the sd. Moakes confessed to this inf. and that she bidd him bring her what goods he could and she would buy them as he told this inf. and that the sd. Mary Isaac bought the sd. goods of him. And further saith that the wife of the sd. Moakes confessed the same unto him. And further that Ralph Smith of the towne of Bedford linnen draper told him that his wife bought of the sd. Moakes a remnant of Tamerine att one shilling the yard and that he also bought of the sd. Moakes 2 or 3 remnants of silver lace about 16 or 18 yar she piece which were the goods of this inf. and further saith that Tamerine is usually sold at 1s and 8d the yard. And this inf. further saith that Mary the wife of the sd. William Isaac told this inf. that she bougth of the sd. Moakes a piece of silke farrendin & silke mohaire for 2s the yard and that Mrs Nelson wife of Robt. Nelson of the towne of Bedford upholster gave her 2s -6d the yard for itt. And this inf. Further saith that he told the sd Wm Isaack that if he would deliver the sd goods to him he would take them & deale kindly with him, & that the sd Isaac bidd this Informant give him a note of his particulars & he would pay for them, thereupon this Informant told him the sd Isaac he would give him a release for soe much as he had of them if the sd Isaac would give him the like, & that the sd Isaac offered him 6li[?] but then said to this Informant gett you about your business or I will have an action against you for concealing a felon. And this Informant further saith that one Henry Lumbe of the sd towne of Bedford taylor restored black piece of Prunella which was this Informants goods bought the same of the said Moakes. And this Informant further saith that the aforesd Robt Nelson told this Informant that he bought of the wife of the said Ralph Moakes a piece of blacke Tamaletta & a piece of Pinke colour Tamy which were the goods of this Informant & that the sd Robt Nelsons wife told him that she bought of the sd Mary Isaac a piece of Mohaire, & that the sd Mary Isaac then told Mrs Nelson that she bought itt of Ralph Moakes & that the sd Robt Nellson told this Informant that he then told the sd Mary Isaac that he would tell this Informant of the sd good & the said Mary Isaac desired him not. The examination of Ralph Smith of the town of Bedford linnendraper and Sarah his wife taken before me John Gardiner 19th Jan. 21 Chas 2. This ex. saith that he bought about August last of one Ralph Moakes now a prisoner in Bedford Gaole 3 remnants of silver lace but Knows not the quantity of them and that he gave 1s - 2d the yard for some of itt, and that he asked the sd. Moakes where he had the sd. lace who told him he changed them for other commodities, and that he sold the Lace for 2d in the yard profitt & Sarah his wife saith that she did buy of the sd. Moakes about the same time a remnant of Tamerine att one shilling the yard, the quantity being about 3 yards - And att the same time she bought of the sd. Moakes 2 or 3 yards of worsted & farrendine for which she gave about 16d (?) a yard and further saith not. The examination of Mary the wife of William Isaac of the towne of Bedford Ironmonger taken the same time. This ex. saith That about the later end of August last one Henry Lumbe of the sd. towne taylor told her that there was a piece of stuffe in his house fitt to make her husband a cloake and that she thereupon bought itt of Ralph Moakes (now a prisoner in the County Gaole at Bedford) for 14s for 12 yards, and that she bought of him 3 other pieces of stuffes, one of 12 yards, the other of 10 yards, the other of 19 yards and a halfe, for one piece she gave 12d the yard, the other 14d. That about the (six..) of Nov(ember) last the sd. Moakes brought a piece of silke to her att a stall, but she bidd him bring itt to her house but wished him not to carry itt to Lumbes house because there was a difference betweene them and that she bought the sd. piece of the sd. Moakes. And that she never asked the sd. Moakes where he had them but Moakes his wife told her she bought severall remnants of old Mrs. Newneham and further saith not. The examination of Henry Lumbe of the towne of Bedford taylor the same day. This ex. saith That in May last he sold five yards and a halfe of Lute string for Ralph Moakes now a prisoner in the County Gaole to two severall persons and a yard and a halfe he had himselfe att 4s the yard. That the sd. Moakes told him he Exchanged the same. for seedes and that att home he had other pieces and would bring them to him and when he came againe he bought a little piece of Tamerine to make a Child a Coate and that he restored (after he had discovered the felony of the sd. Ralph Moakes) 7 yards of Prunella to Robt. Doman of St. Neotts mercer and further saith not.
