    Deposition: John Stoakes 9 nov. 1669. The information of John Stoakes of Hockleiffe Beds, laborer taken the same day. This informant saith that on Sunday last, being the 7th of this instant November he had his house broken open between 3 & 4 of the clocke in the afternoone and lost out of his said house about 19 or 20 shillings in money, one pillowbeere, a peece of Holland. two laced handkercheiffe, whiskes, two pockett handkercheiffs with several other goods, and heareing by his neighbours that a young youth in a brown PerraWigg a darke coloured Coate and blew stockings went by about dinner time, whom this informant suspecte and therefore he went to one of the constables of Dunstable that evening, who together with this informant made search at the signe of the 3 Black Swannes, where they was told, there was but one man in the house being a drover; this informant goeing all night, went beyond Redbourne, and thinking that he had overwent him, returned backe againe, and between Redbourne and Market Street he met with one Richard Musley in such an habite as his Neighbours had described unto him, and this informant did tell him he must goe backe againe, chargeing him with the breaking open of his house, who at the first, denyed it, but presently after, he confessed he did, and pulled out of his pocket a holland handkercheife, 2 laced Holland handkercheife Whiskes. and gave them to this informant, and said that the rest of the linnen and all the money was taken away from him at the place where he lodgd that night, which was at the Three Black Swannes in Dunstable by a tall man with black curled haire, who came with a sword in his hand and threatened to kill him if he would not deliver the things unto him, and another man something lower tooke away his breeches, and tooke away all the money, and the rest of the clothes as aforesd, and that when they had soe done they charged himto run away; And further this informant Deposeth not.
