    Michael Day, Houghton Conquest, yeoman 21 Apr. 1669 On Whit Monday saw Sarah Mosse crying at Whisson Brook; she told him it was because Eliz. Willimott had beaten her and flung her downstairs for falling asleep after being called. Fortnight later he saw her barefoot driving cows of Thomas Willimott. The information of Michaell Day of Houghton Conquest Beds, yeoman taken upon oath April 21st, 1669 before Sir George Blundell Kt., Sir Clement Armiger Kt., and Robt. Audeley Esq., and other fellow justices: This informant saith that upon Whitsun Munday last he saw Sarah Mosse, an apprentice to Thomas Willimott of Houghton Conquest aforesaid in a place of the common field of Houghton Conquest aforesaid called Whisson brooke sitting crying betwixt two other children and that he asked the sd. Sarah Mosse why she satt cryeing there and she told him this informant that it was because Elizabeth Willimott the wife of the said Thomas Willimott had beaten her and flung her downe the staires because she had fallen asleepe againe after the said Elizabeth had called her up in the morning. And thereupon the informant caused the said two children to stripp the said Sarah and he then found her left shoulder blacke and blew and her arme bloody which she said was done by the said Elizabeth throwing her downe the staires. And that about a fortnight after he mett the said Sarah goeing in the streete barefoote and bare legg'd driveing the cowes of the said Thomas Willimott to the field and that she had in her lapp at that time good wheaten bread and cheese sufficient for the sd.
