    Deposition: Robert Wright, Southill, labourer 24 June 1668 While Robert White's wife was talking to Thomas Lambard in Southill, wife. passed on horseback and called R.wife "Forsworne Rogue art not you hanged yet". Followed by assault. Denies pulling him from horse and theft. The examination of Robert Wright of Broome in the parish of Southill in the county aforesd., labourer taken the 24th of June before John Ventris Esq., J.P. 1668. This examinant saith that upon the 22nd daye of June he comeing from stakeing his horses he stayed at the gate of Thomas Lumbard in the parish of Southill aforesd talkeing with the sd. Thomas Lumbard, in which time one William Thurgood of Shefford in the county of Beds. came rideing by and askt him the sd. examinant who is there Robert Wright? and This Examinant answered, Yes it is I, and Thurgood replyed, "Forsworne Rogue, art not you hanged yet"; and this examinant answered;" Thurgood, you always call me forsworne rogue. If you had your due, you would have a writt upon your backe". Upon which wordes Thurgood strucke him, whereupon this examinant threw a small sticke at him as he was rideing awaye, But he the sd. Thurgood turned againe upon him and had like to have ride over him this examinant as he was takeing up his sticke and did several times turne upon him and would faine have rid over him if this examinant had not kept him off with his sticke, But at the goeing awaye of the sd. Thurgood, he calld This examinant Beggerly Rogue & said he would dye a begger to which this examinant said "You are but a prickelouse taylor" and soe they parted. And this examinant goeing to his house in Broome aforesaid within a quarter of a mile of the place of their parting & there was complayneing to his neighbours how the sd. Thurgood used him; and as he was there, the sd. Thurgood came with the constable, charged him with the takeing awaye of foure or five poundes, But this examinant denyeth that he either pulled him off his horse or layd hands upon him or robbed him or tooke any money from him.
