  • Title
    Abstract of title to the trustees under the will of James Lambert deceased to hereditaments and premises situate at Stotfold, Beds (Known as Lot 1). Drawn up by S. Veasey, Balderston & Warren of Baldock and 32 Bedford Row. Abstracting: (Recital I) Award of enfranchisement dated 27th Jan 1862 whereby James Lambert of Stotfold, Beds, brickmaker was awarded (a-c) as freehold for ever discharged from all copyhold or customary tenure. Reciting: - That the Reverend John Alington of Letchworth near Hitchin, Hertfordshire was the Lord of the Manor of Stotfold, Beds. - There was no trustees acting under the will under which JA as tenant for life held the manor. - By appointment dated 11th Dec 1861, the copyhold commissioners appointed John Hawkins of Hitchin and Henry Alington of Little Barford, Beds trustees for the purpose of receiving any monies to be paid for the enfranchisement of lands held of the said manor. - On the 11th July 1859 James Lambert of Stotfold, Beds, brickmaker was admitted as tenant to the said land. - 60 was paid to John Hawkins and Henry Alington in order to enfranchise the land. Property: (a) Two cottages formerly one messuage in Stotfold formerly in the several occupations of John Hide and John Hawkes, afterwards of John Holley and Marriott and then of James Holley and James Paine. (b) Two cottages formerly one tenement near to and standing on the N by the yards of (a). Late in the occupation of John Hide and James Barker and were then in the several occupations of Joseph Bonner and Simeon Cooper. (c) Close of land or pasture belonging to (a) and (b) containing 1a 1r 8p formerly in the occupation of John Paine and then of James Lambert. (Recital II) Will of James Lambert of Stotfold, Beds, brickmaker but then out of business dated 17th May 1884. Appointing: His son Alfred Lambert and friend William Odell of Radwell Grange, Hertfordshire, justices and executors and bequeathing certain hereditaments in Stotfold not comprised in the said abstracted premises to the same son. Devised: Residue of real and personal estate to trustees upon trust to sell and covert the same into money. (Recital III) James Lambert died on the 24th Jan 1885.
