  • Title
Accountbook of Giles Blofield (who managed the legal business of Henry, 6th Earl of Kent (d. 1615); 9 x 3'', bd. vellum. This relates to his early days, and includes personal expenses, such as cloth for a gown, 2 pr. shoes, admission to Barnard's Inn, grogram chamlet, byllyment lace, jerkin, gloves, candles, mending shoes and hose, a box to put writings in, parchment & paper. He is already associated with Beds. (if indeed he was not in any case of Beds. origin), as there is an item for horsemeat from London, spent at Bedford, and 'carrying up of my gear'; but it does not appear whether he was already in the service of above, who did not succed till the d. of Reynold in 1573. 1564-69 (See also Legal Section passim, and a letter, apparently to him from a namesake nephew, in L30/25.) At end is a list of names - probably clients - and sums, some crossed as if paid; and a list 'owynge unto me 26 March 1573.' 1573
