Title
Breviat of bill exhibited in Star Chamber by Robt. Newdygate &
Robt. Pynchemore v. Henry, Earl of Kent:
The Earl has conceived displeasure against N. without cause, and
with Thos. Piggott and Jn. Barnardiston, J.P.s, arrested his servants,
examined them and demanded bail, all without making him privy thereto;
arrested Robt. Pynchemore and kept him at his (the Earl's) house
2 days and nights and took from him a gelding value 10 and sent
him to the common gaol and had him indicted of felony; and on
16 March last with 30 of his servants on horseback riotously
assaulted N. and Pynchemore in the queen's highway with dagger
drawn. The Earl bent his fists towards him, using many terrible
threats and outrageous oaths, that he should not dwell quietly at
Haynes in his own dwelling-house, and that he the said Earl would
'make the same whotte' for the said N. He also procured Lord
St. John of Bletsoe to bid certain simple J.P.s to his house and
set their hands to writing accusing N. as not meet to be on the
commission.
