Lease and Release (attested copies)
i) William Clarke, Thorncoat, Northill, labourer and wife Jane (one of the 3 daughters and devisees in fee named in last will of John Usher, late of Moxhole in Cople, yeoman, deceased, and also one of 3 co-heirs of her brother, Simon Usher, late of Eynesbury, Hunts, bricklayer, deceased, who was also a devisee under his father's will)
ii) Robert Askham, late of Marston, and now of Hatch, Northill, miller said Jane Clarke, under her father's will, became seised of one undivided 1/3rd part of below mentioned cottage in Hatch, and on the decease of Simon Usher, intestate, became seised of 1/3rd of the other 4th part of the premises i.e. one undivided 1/3rd part
Also on the decease of her brother, said Jane Clarke became seised of 1/3rd part of 2 cottages and a rood of land at Girtford in Sandy
Reciting deed of 28 May 1772
a) said William and Jane Clarke
Robert Askham and wife Ann
Joseph Reach, late of Tingrey, Beds,, and then of Cardington, labourer, and wife Mary
b) Simon Staughton, Eynesbury, gent by which agreed to levy a fine unto b) of - cottage, tenement and orchard, at Hatch, Northill, then in tenure of William Haines and now of Robert Askham
- 2 cottages, and rood of arable belonging in Girtford, Sandy, and then in tenure of widow Barker and widow West and now of William Barker and Henry Care
It was agreed between said parties that said fine would operate as one full undivided 1/3rd part of said property. Said fine was levied in Trinity term, 12 George III
Now in consideration of 30 paid to William Clarke by ii)
i) release to ii) in his actual possession by virtue of a lease made the previous day
- 1 undivided 1/3rd part in---said cottage, etc in Hatch--- said 2 cottages and rood arable in Girtford to use of ii) for ever marks of i) witnesses John Richardson
