    Will (copy) of Jn. Selden of the Inner Temple esq. (DNB) to be buried in Temple church: to the poor of Whitefriars 30, of Flitton 30; to trustees & exors. (Edw. Heyward of Norfolk and the Inner Temple esq.; Jn. Vaughan of Troescold, Cardigan, & Inner Temple; Mat. Hale of Lincoln's Inn; Rowland Jewkes sr. of Inner Temple) each 100, and the manor of Cheadle, Staffs., & 1/3 of lands in Dudmandale, Lincs.; they are to carry out directions in codicil (missing); to 2 nephews (sons of sis. Mary Selden & Jn. Bernard of Goring) Jn. & Thos.; and to 4 nieces (Mary, w. of Robt. Douglas; Sar., w. of Jas. Chapman; Joan, w. of Edw. Manfield; and Sus., w. of Jn. Bode) 100 each; witn. Wm. Lee, Thos. Gibson, Thos. Calvert, Wm. Richardson, Thos. Gill, Jos. Gill. Note: he married the widow of Henry, 8th Earl of Kent (d.1623), Eliz., dau. of the 7th Earl of Shrewsbury, who had no children; she d. 1651. Selden was steward for the 9th Earl, Anthony ( d.1643). In his will he mentions being exor. for Eliz., Countess of Kent. Cf. T 48/18 where he witnesses a lease in 1631 (BHRS ii,104)
