2 watermills under one roof, now occ. by John Orlebar,
with the water whereon the mills stand, holmes, cobbs,
and beds of oziers and rushes;
free fishery in the river of use and in Lords mead ditch,
occ. John Orlebar;
cott. in Harrold occ. John Orlebar, before that Eliz.
Bawde wid.;
part of a close cd. the Conygree occ. by Belfeld and
cd. the Upper Conygree, except all wood, underwood
and trees other that the tops of willows on the Upper
Conygree;
reserving to the Earl herbage for 25 geldings, horses,
colts, or mares every summer from 1 May to 1 Nov.,
and 10 geldings etc. from 1 Nov to 1 May.
Belfeld agrees to repair the mills, dams, floodgates, tail
etc. at his own cost, the Earl allowing damboot, within
the manor of Harrold; to set up, at the request of the
Earl, 1 pair of good new floodgates, the Earl allowing
timber and stone for the purpose;
the Earl will allow Belfeld 6 loads of 'such browse wood
as shall be hereafter lopped or cut down for the relief
of the game of deer within the park to be by Belfeld,
after the deer hath browsed the same, burnt and spent within
the Lodge';
Belfeld to maintain deer 'to his uttermost power', and
provide every year 6 cartloads of good hay;
also to kill such deer as the Earl shall command, and to
deliver same at Wrest or elsewhere in Beds. where the
Earl 'shall lie and keep house', in winter and summer;
Belfeld may have 1 fee buck in summer and 1 fee doe in
winter and all other fees belonging to the office of keeper
of the park.
The Earl will maintain outfences and new fence woods and
copses, in consideration of which Belfelde will pay half the
labour, and after fencing will preserve them from deer
and other cattle.
Free ingress etc. allowed for the Earl to cut trees and
chase deer.
Belfelde will pay 20 s. p.a. to the vicar of Harrold out
of 40s. to be paid by the Earl, as composition for tithe
wood.
Belfeld will leave two good pair of millstones and preserve
osiers and willows, and replace if necessary.
The Earl is to be allowed to fish once or twice in the
year without hindrance.
