Title
Lease for 3 years (Articles of agreement).
(i) Hen. Earl of Kent.
(ii) Wm.Belfeld of Odell gent.
house called the Lodge in Harrold Park, orch. and garden
adjg., and the herbage and 'pawnage' of the Park;
foldscourse of sheepgate in Harrold, with all closes
and parcels of mead. and past.;
now occ. by Belfeld.
Rent: for herbage etc., 30 p.a.;
for sheepgate etc., 22 p.a.
Agreed that Belfeld shall have yearly 6 loads of firewood
within the part 'to be burned and spent within the
said house called the Lodge';
Belfeld shall maintain the game of deen to the use
of the Earl 'not only in grass in winter and somer,
but also with hay in winter', and will find and keep
yearly 12 horses, mares or geldings of the Earl in the
park, if the Earl sends them;
Belfeld is to kill or save the deer as the Earl shall
require and also deliver at Wrest in winter or summer
any that the Earl requires for his own provision;
Belfeld may have 1 fee buck and 1 fee doe a year and any
other fees belonging to the keeper of the park;
since Belfeld will have this year's hay, he agrees to
leave the last of the three year's hay for the Earl;
the Earl will fence and repair the fences of the park
and woods;
Belfeld will fence etc. houses, gardens, and will preserve
the 'copyes' and young springs of wood;
the Earl has free liberty of entry etc. to cut timber,
hunt deer, or remove horses.
