Title
Will of John Clarke, yeoman of Barton
Revokes former wills, desires to be buried in Barton churchyard and debts paid. Leaves to:
- William Clarke, his son, all freehold and leasehold in Barton and Higham Gobion or elsewhere
- wife Grace one joint [be...... ] standing in the loft or chamber over the hall with all furniture belonging
- wife Grace 10 yearly in 2 equal payments from son William Clarke out of the rent of Long Close, Higham Gobion, and so long as they live together contentedly and she takes her meat, drink and house [rometh?] then the 10 shall not be paid, but if they do not then Grace shall have power to enter and distrain upon the Close if the 10 is unpaid
- Grace shall have the parlour and one little room under the stairs
- Grace to be paid yearly by William half a quarter of wheat, half a quarter of malt and half a quarter of peas or beans
- Grace to have half hisy linen, which after her death to be equally divided beween Grace Clarke and Mary Clarke his 2 daughters
- Grace Clarke his eldest daughter 4 pa starting 6 years after his death, and if his son William refuses to pay then she shall have the close of pasture in Higham Gobion which has the close of pasture of Henry Fullers lying N and a close of the Widow Brace S
- Mary Clarke his youngest daughter 140, that is 20 pa starting 4 years after his death until the 140 is paid, and if she marries before 4 years then she shall have 20 of the 140 on her marriage, and if William refuses to pay then Mary shall have the close of arable in Higham Gobion lying on the E side of the close of pasture already mentioned
- If Grace his wife remarries, she shall have only 8 a year
- Joseph Clarke his brother 50s
- Alice Foxson his sister 50s
